CONTACT A QUALIFIED CONTRACTOR
The first step in a roof insurance claim is choosing a contractor who is licensed and insured to evaluate your roof’s damage and provide you with a repair estimate. You can easily verify a contractors license by searching South Carolina’s license verification portal. Qualified licensees can be found under Contractors-Commercial or Residential Builders. Your contractor should be able to provide you with their certificate of insurance, which should include both General Liability and Workman’s Compensation insurance. A building permit and business license may also be required, depending on the laws in the municipality and county where the work is performed.
FILE A CLAIM WITH YOUR INSURANCE AGENT
After you have received an estimate from JA Contractors, you will need to contact your insurance agent or company to file a claim. Your insurance provider will issue you a claim number. Your claim number is very important; all subsequent contact with your insurance company will require your claim number for confirmation.
SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER
Your insurance company will have an adjuster review the damage to your home in addition to JA Contractors evaluation. You should be home during the adjuster’s inspection. To provide a thorough inspection of the damage, the adjuster must get on your roof; be sure they do so. Before the adjuster leaves, ask when and how you will receive your loss summary report.
NEGOTIATING REPLACEMENT COST DIFFERENCES
The estimate from JA Contractors and the loss summary report from your insurance adjuster will differ. You will need to send a copy of your loss summary report to one of our project managers, and we will negotiate with your insurance company until an agreement is reached. Once an agreement has been reached for the Replacement Cost Value (RCV), your insurance company will cut you a check for the Actual Cost Value (ACV). This figure is calculated by subtracting depreciation from the RCV. Upon completion of the project, JA Contractors will provide the owner with a Certificate of Completion as well as a Workmanship Warranty. The owner will need to forward a copy of these documents to their insurance provider. Once the insurance provider has verified JA Contractors work, they will send a payment for the Actual Cost Value (ACV) directly to the owner. The owner will be responsible for paying JA Contractors.
Within three to five days of acceptance of our estimate, a JA Contractors project manager will contact you to confirm your shingle color, any upgrade options, and a production start date. It is very important that we receive a final confirmation of your shingle color a minimum of two weeks prior to the commencement of production to ensure timely delivery of materials and proper scheduling of workers.
Unless your roof is unusually large, JA Contractors can complete a roof tear off and replacement, from start to finish, in less than two days. Our highly skilled roofing specialists can hand nail between 25-40 squares per day.
JA Contractors never requests an upfront deposit. Rather, payment in full is due upon delivery of product and or service.
